Signs of Spring at the Custer County Library
A sure sign of spring is the appearance of the final shipment of IRS tax forms to the Custer County Annex Building. This year the forms and booklets are located again in the front east foyer so they are accessible even when the library is not open to the public. We have a binder of reproducible forms available for photocopying during regular library hours if you do not find the form you need in the racks.
Another spring celebration with the Black Hills Storytellers and French Creek Folk is also in the planning stages and set for April 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the Annex Building. Mark your calendars and plan to join us for a fun evening of entertainment!
Once again the library is offering a spring book discussion. In an effort to deepen and broaden cultural understanding, local contributors partnered with the South Dakota Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Arts, to help sponsor this spring’s book discussion at the library. The discussion will be lead by Kathy Antonen of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and Lydia Whirlwind Soldier, Native American poet.
The program will focus on two books. The first discussion centers on the book by James Ronda, Finding the West, which is a book of many storytellers centering on Meriwether Lewis and William Clark’s travels across the continent and the winds of change they created in their trek. The discussion will be Monday, March 15th at 5:30 in the library with discussion leader Kathy Antonen.
This Stretch of the River , produced by the Oak Lake Writers’ Society, features a group of writers – all Lakota, Nakota, or Dakota – hailing from South Dakota and offering fresh perspectives on the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery Expedition. Kathy Antonen and Lydia Whirlwind Soldier, a Rosebud, South Dakota Native American poet will lead the discussion Monday, April 19th at 5:30 in the library.
Stop at the Custer County Library to register and pick up copies of the books which are on loan free-of-charge for participants. For more information, call the library at 673-4803.
