Custer County Sheriff’s Office Job Announcement

Custer County, SD, has an opening for a full-time Deputy Sheriff. Custer County is located in the Black Hills about 40 miles south of Rapid City. Our County is approximately 1800 square miles that is bordered by the State of Wyoming, Pennington, Oglala Lakota, and Fall River Counties. Our Sheriff’s Office consists of (12) Sworn Law Enforcement Personnel that also provide contract law enforcement for the City of Custer. Deputies will enforce local, state, and federal laws, prevent and suppress crime and accidents, serve legal processes of courts, and promote public safety through community policing principles. Requirements: Must be at least 21 years of age. Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED certificate; pass a comprehensive background investigation, No prior felony or simple assault domestic violence conviction, Valid Driver’s License upon application and South Dakota License within 90 days of State residency, an insurable driving history, Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Training Commission Certificate or ability to obtain within one year from hiring date. Preference will be given to candidates with certification. Applicant must have the availability to work all shifts, weekends and holidays. Custer County participates in the South Dakota Retirement System. Wage dependant on experience. Application period is open until filled.
