The program has one main goal for each DWI defendant and that is sobriety 24 hours per day and 7 days per week. The program that is administered through the Office of the Attorney General started as a pilot program in January 2005. There are currently 67 participating agencies, including police departments, sheriff’s offices, and the Unified Judicial System.  Per Court Orders or as a condition of sentencing, some participants in the program are required to test for alcohol via a portable breath test (PBT) during the morning and/or evening program hours and/or are required to submit to Urine Analysis (U/As).  Other participants have the option of being fitted with SCRAM bracelet or having the vehicle they drive equipped with an ignition interlock system.  Additional information on the program can be retrieved from the programs website: https://atg.sd.gov/legal/DUI247/default.aspx#gsc.tab=0
